About Dare to Hope:

She’s Betting on Love and the Stakes are High

The “Crazy Eights,” eight women who have been friends for 30 years, have a powerful connection yet rarely see each other. At a pivotal time in their lives, they create a way to remedy this predicament, an audacious dare contrived to bring them together for weddings – each participant must get married within twelve months. The stakes are high. Win the bet and lose your heart, or lose the bet and perform a personally mortifying task.

In the first of their stories, we meet Eliana, beautiful and brilliant, but starting over, focused on her career, not on some foolhardy dare. Longing for a family but recently divorced and on her own, Eliana sets her sights on a new job, a new home, and accepting her single, childless status. Independent and determined, she has no idea that in less than six months she will both win and lose her heart’s desire.

Jeremy Klein, genius engineer, and inventor is also making life changes. He’s sold his startup to a major medical device company, becoming President and CEO, and a billionaire before he is forty. Although he’s gun-shy about the dating game, Jeremy knows it’s time to apply his smarts, sex appeal, and new-found success to finding true love.

When Eliana meets Jeremy, they bond quickly. The couple has so much in common and a chemistry that sizzles. Winning Eliana feels like a fantasy come true to Jeremy. Their attraction is immediate and electrifying, and a one-night stand morphs into planning a future. But plans change. On track to wedded bliss, baby and all, Jeremy and Eliana are derailed by accusations that threaten their relationship, Eliana’s career, and Jeremy’s future as CEO.

Spies, lies, allegations, and misunderstandings abound, threatening to destroy their happiness. That is, until those “Crazy Eights” get involved, scheming and manipulating to win Eliana her happily ever after. Can a group of determined friends help Eliana and Jeremy hold onto love?

In the tradition of The Beguiling Bachelor Series, Madison Michael creates a romance series about independent and sassy women, sexy and successful men, true love, and lasting friendships.

An Excerpt from Dare to Hope:

His grin was devastating up close – wide and welcoming, with a hint of naughtiness and the promise of shared pleasures. But it was his eyes, deep coffee brown and fringed with long dark lashes that were his best feature; piercing, intelligent and inquisitive eyes, trained on her.

Please, God, Eliana prayed quickly, do not let this man be the new sales manager. It would be lamentable if she had to keep him at arm’s length. He was the first man Eliana had felt drawn to since Nico. If she was honest with herself, he was the first man she had ever felt this attracted to so immediately. It was enough to make her believe in love at first sight or fate.
“Hi,” he stepped closer, ignoring the empty stool beside her to halt just inside her personal space. Usually, Eliana would have reflexively backed up, but she savored his closeness, the power emanating from his presence. Even in this stuffy bar, he smelled good – fresh, like soap and good whiskey. And up close, his eyes were more magical – a hint of gold dancing in their depths.
“Hi,” she responded on a breath, letting the single word hang there for a moment before adding “You aren’t in sales, are you?”
“Nope.” If he thought it was a strange conversation starter, he kept it to himself. “Engineering and design, although I have dabbled in sales. I could be in sales for you,” he offered in a voice smooth as brandy, redolent with sexual promise and a hint of curiosity. She laughed at his offer. “Are you in sales?”
“Yes, I am. I was thinking of what a crime it would be if you turned out to be my new boss. I’m meeting him tomorrow.”
“Jeremy,” he responded, extending his hand to shake hers. “Not in sales. Is your boss named Jeremy?”
“Thankfully, not.” Eliana extended her hand, savoring the moment as Jeremy wrapped his long fingers around hers. She noticed there was no wedding band as she admired the strength and length of his fingers, the fine hairs on the back of his hand, and his grip – warm and dry. His skin was soft over fine bone and healthy muscle. Everything about him captivated her. “Eliana.”
Jeremy seemed in no hurry to release her hand, but after several beats too long for politeness, Eliana pulled hers from his. “Is this seat taken?” he asked, already sitting down, not thinking twice about it. “Or perhaps that table against the wall? I am anxious to learn why you don’t know who you work with, Eliana.”
Eliana laughed and watched as Jeremy’s breath stopped. His every emotion was transparent, especially the desire flaming in his eyes right now. A passion she reciprocated. Wholeheartedly. She couldn’t remember such an instantaneous attraction. But with Jeremy, she felt electricity and lust move through her entire body, just from the touch of his hand and the sound of her name spoken in his rich baritone.
“Eliana,” he rolled the word around his mouth as if tasting a fine wine. “What a lovely name.” Eliana panties dampened. He was just saying words, but their underlying promise was undeniable. She wanted to be alone with him. She wanted to be naked with him. And all she knew was his first name.
Eliana nodded toward the table, questioning her sanity. She was sure about what this man wanted, but after only minutes, her body governed her head. Jeremy spoke briefly with the bartender, passed him a fifty like it was a single, and motioned for her to lead the way to the empty table. Before they had settled in their chairs, both had fresh drinks. Earlier, the bartender had responded to her beauty with decent service and half-hearted flirting, but he reacted with alacrity to the big tip.
“So, spill,” Jeremy directed, leaning forward on his elbows and putting his mouth dangerously close to hers. Just a few inches, Eliana imagined, and they could be kissing. “I am dying to hear your story. I want to know absolutely everything about you.” The way he lingered on the word ‘everything’ made Eliana wetter still. Oh man, she was in way over her head.

D&D Blog Tour Banner 2

madison michael author photoTell us a little about yourself and your background?

I know that readers want to know about authors, but this is the hardest question I answer. While I can go on for hours about my books and my characters, talking about myself is more of a challenge. I could give you a resume but all you really need to know is that I spent a long time in corporate America before I wised up, retired and started writing. Why? Because I can’t not write. I wake up in the morning with stories jumping around in my brain, aching to get on a page.

I write romance because life is challenging, no matter your situation. Escape and a happy ending can make all of our lives that little bit easier. When I am not writing, or more accurately when I am done writing for the day,  I love to binge TV shows – I am not one for delayed gratification. I love to eat regional foods like pizza, hot dogs and Italian beef, steaks, and ribs – all that Chicago’s chefs have to offer. Unfortunately, I hate to exercise, so this desire to eat must be tempered.

Right now I am without feline companionship, a first for me in 18 years, but a situation I hope to remedy this winter. I like nothing more than having a cat or two (or three) curled beside me as I write. They are fierce critics.

One more thing…I love hearing from my fans – they send ideas, feedback, and suggestions, or they ask for more of a certain character. All input is welcome.

Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just to see where an idea takes you?

I try to highlight the flow of the main action and events by laying out chapters and what will happen in each. This assures me that my books won’t sag in the middle, or run way too long – I do love to write and it can get out of control. Then I revise the outline a dozen times as I actually begin writing. My characters drive the story and the better I get to know them and their motivations, the further I end up straying from my original outline.

Do you ever get writer’s Block?

Not writer’s block per se, but I do get burned out to the point where I just cannot look at the blank page anymore. I know what I want to write, I have stories outlined just waiting to get onto the page, but I can’t find the energy to actually write. Or I write and hate everything I put to paper. When that happens I just have to give myself some serious self-love – good food, great friends, sleep and even exercise. Then I can get back to work.

What genre do you write? What draws you to this genre?

I write erotic romance/contemporary romance – more romance than erotica but definitely steamy and always with wealthy characters. I just love the fantasy of living in that world. I recently saw the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” and the over the top wealth was so much fun. I loved peeking into that level of luxury. That is the object of my writing as well but perhaps tempered a bit.

Why erotic romance? My characters are worldly and in their 30’s. It would be silly to think they don’t have sex. A wonderfully romantic and very hot sex scene helps bond the characters and move their relationship forward. People relate to each other differently after a first kiss, a romp in bed, a sharing of true intimacy. Besides, its fun to write a steamy scene and get a great response from readers.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

For “Desire & Dessert” two work-related actions conflated. I work part-time at a local B&B and thought it would make a great setting for a novel. And I signed on to do a collection with a billionaire theme. The real fun came from sharing my idea with a true friend who suggested my heroine be the billionaire – a nice twist from the usual.

How are you publishing this book and why? (Indie, traditional or small press)

I prefer to publish my own books, at least for now. I don’t want to be hampered by word count requirements or specific romantic trope directives. I love the freedom of setting my own deadlines too, although I am as demanding as any publisher might be.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Read and write – a lot. Finish what you start. Resist the urge to rewrite and rewrite before you finish. Millions of people say they want to be authors, but the ones who make it are the ones who finish.

And get a critique group. They will make you better.

Do you have an excerpt you’d like to share with us?

Excerpt from Desire & Dessert:

DesireDessert

“Inside or out?”

The maître’d and Grant were both looking at Stevie expectantly. Usually assertive, she demurred to Grant. “You know the place better; you choose.”

“If you would like the patio, Dr. Harris,” the host suggested in a heavily accented voice, “I have a lovely corner table.”

The couple acquiesced and were seated in the back corner of the enclosed patio. The music was fainter, but still audible accompanied by the tinkling sound of a fountain. Stevie glanced across the patio. There were about eight tables outdoors, all for parties of two. High bushes of hibiscus and roses bursting with blooms surrounded the patio. The fragrance was wonderful, the table incredibly intimate.

“You like it?” Grant asked with a hint of uncertainty.

“I love it.”

“Wait until you taste the food,” he promised, his confidence restored.

They hid behind tall menus, selecting dishes to share along with a carafe of sangria. After giving their order to the server they were finally alone.

“It’s beautiful here,” Stevie breathed. “Thank you for suggesting it.”

“Now that I finally have you alone,” Grant teased only to be interrupted by the server arriving to pour their drinks. “So much for my sinister plans.”

“Do you have sinister plans?” Stevie queried in a low, husky voice.

“Do you want me to?”

“No answering a question with a question,” Stevie responded. She watched conflicting emotions waver across Grant’s face and waited quietly. She would not give him an out. She had learned from business that silence was a powerful tool.

“Yes, in fact, Stevie. I have very sinister plans.”

The words were out, electric between them like a live thing. Stevie sucked in a breath, surprised by how quickly and matter of factly Grant had stated his desires. She reached her foot forward under the table closing the few inches that separated them. She rubbed her foot slowly up his leg, allowing her movements to acknowledge what she failed to say with her lips.

“Have I shocked you?”

“I guess that depends on just how sinister you can be. Mostly you have pleased me,” Stevie admitted. No shy wallflower, she gave Grant a bold smile and placed her hand in his. “I’m looking forward to finding out.”

Grant pressed a soft kiss on the back of her hand then released her as course after course of Latin-inspired small plates arrived. For the next hour, they spoke of the food, the atmosphere, the music, everything but each other and what lay ahead. After assuring that he ordered something to satisfy Stevie’s sweet tooth, Grant requested the check. When it arrived, Grant automatically reached for it and Stevie reveled in the moment. Too often she was the one who paid for the date. Not tonight.

“We could go dancing?” Grant asked. “Perhaps a salsa club in keeping with our theme?” Stevie believed he was just making a polite offer but couldn’t quite tell.

“Are you a good dancer?”

“Not on a dance floor.” Grant offered her a wicked smile and reached to help her from the chair. “But in a bedroom…”

“Braggart.”

“Am I?”

“Shall we find out?”

Featuring:

The Billionaire Boyfriend

by Jan Springer

Blurb:

Lily finds pleasure in the arms of two sexy billionaires.

When famous interior decorator Lily Tiffany receives a diamond-encrusted key with an invitation to a private island estate, she’s both nervous and excited that her sexy billionaire boyfriend Ryland Walton is surrendering her to his dark desire of sharing her with another man…

PIBB JSExcerpt:

Need for more rough sex pulsed through her and she reached out to him, but her hand fell upon empty air. She blinked open her eyes and disappointment rocked her. Ryland wasn’t there and from the heavy silence permeating her two-thousand-square-foot apartment, she knew he had left. But on his pillow, she spied a small white velvet box.

Her insides quivered. Holding her breath, she shivered with a curious eagerness. Her hands trembled with nervousness as she lifted the delicate velvet lid and gazed upon the large white inflatable butt plug lying inside a clear protective plastic case. The plug was big. No…huge. Bigger than any other plug she’d ever worn for Ryland or for the two men he’d shared her with.

Who is this man Ryland wants to share me with? A giant?

Beside the plug lay a miniature version of the larger box. She ran her fingers over the lid, awed at the exquisite softness that pressed against her fingertips. Opening the box, she discovered a beautiful heart-shaped white skeleton key. It appeared to be made of white marble and its head was adorned with tiny white diamonds. The diamonds glistened beautifully in the early morning July sunshine that streamed through the glass panes of her bedroom window. From the box she picked up a lavender-scented note and smiled at Ryland’s bold, confident handwriting.

Sweetheart,

I had to go back to work. But you know what they say…too much work and no play makes for a very boring day. This key is an invitation to join me at a private island. My limo will pick you up in five days. You should be ready for the two of us by then. I love you, always.

Ry.

‘You should be ready for the two of us by then.’ That sentence jumped out at her and her breath hitched and quickened.

In five days she was going to be shared by the man she loved with all her heart. Her mouth went dry. He would share her with a stranger who was so obviously well-hung. Even bigger than Ryland and he was the biggest man she’d ever been with.

Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.

AuThursday – Madison Micheal

OLIHTS Banner

madison michael author photoTell us a little about yourself and your background?

Actually I just rewrote my bio for my website to share more of who I am and where I came from. It sounded so dull before, and I am not a dull person. I am opinionated and not shy about sharing my thoughts. I love to give advice – unsolicited. I adore expensive shoes, bargains on everything else and long baths with a good book. I am addicted to the movies – at the theater. Currently I am acquiring a appreciation for opera and live theater. I love dogs but like to share my digs with cats.

I am originally from Chicago but I have lived on both coasts from Boston to San Francisco, with several stops in between. I spent my career as a technical consultant or manager for a huge software company, but I retired in 2014 and got away from the 9 to 5 life. I miss my coworkers but not the job. To entertain myself upon retiring I started taking classes including one on “How to Write a Romance Novel” and with encouragement from friends, the rest is history.

I am close with my family, reside in suburban Chicago and I love to travel. I am on the board of directors of Mental Health America of the North Shore because they do good work and a member of Romance Writers of America.

How do you make time to write?

I am very fortunate because I am able to write full-time.

What genre are your books?

I write contemporary fiction, usually with some steamy sex. That is my wheel-house so far in my

“Beguiling Bachelor” series. But I did just complete “Our Love is Here to Stay”, which is a time-travel story.

I love reading mysteries, literature, and romance in every genre, so I have sprinkled small pieces of these into my books where I can. My mother was a librarian. She taught me to love reading and respect writers of every kind. Every word I write can be traced back to her teachings in some way or another.

What draws you to this genre?

I grew up on Regency romance, and I am drawn there but haven’t braved the genre yet. Instead, I write more of what I know – current times and current places. I set my books in places that are familiar and I make my characters a bit older than in some romances. Women in their late 20’s and early 30’s and men in their mid-30’s have problems to overcome, responsibilities to juggle and they have sex. That is what I like to write about – their flaws, their journeys, their struggles and the wonderful ways they fall in love.

What are your current projects?

I have just completed the first book in a new series, the Billionaire B&B series. The book, “Desire & Dessert” will be published in a collection this spring, with at least two more volumes to follow. My Beguiling Bachelors will return this summer, and I am always toying with a short story or two.

I am very excited about another new project – a blog for romance writers. Today I blog for my readers, my story every Thursday and an introduction to another author every Tuesday. But begging next month, on Monday’s, I will begin sharing what I have learned about writing and indie-publishing. Am I THE expert as I begin my third year as a writer? Hardly. But I have learned tons about being a new writer that experts have forgotten. Sometimes it is the non-expert that new writers can relate to. I hope to share my wisdom with those people.

Are you an Introvert or Extrovert? How does this affect your work?

My whole life I was an extravert, but once I became a writer, I became the complete opposite. Anyone or anything that takes me away from my computer is a disruption. That said, once I have made the break, the extravert in me rules again. I love being with my friends and family, networking with other authors and meeting fans. I just need that initial nudge to put down my writing.

What is your writing Kryptonite?

No feedback. No reviews. I send my books out there into the world representing my hard work and heart. They are a labor of love for me – my babies. When I have no idea how they are received, that leaves me wondering ‘do I write something similar? something different?” I don’t write only for me. I write for my readers and their feedback is priceless.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

I speak with more aspiring writers than I ever could have imagined and I tell them all the same things – read more and write more. I tell them the different betwee a writer and a want-to-be writer is that a writer finishes something.

When I got ready to write my first novel I read tons of romances, paid attention to the covers, the titles, the back-cover blurbs, even the author bios. I wrote down words and phrases that I loved from my favorite books. This became my library of inspriration. Then I wrote and wrote and wrote, edited and rewrote until I finished my first novel, “Bedazzled.”

Where can readers find you on the World Wide Web?

I hope readers will visit me at www.madisonmicahel.net  where I have a blog and a wonderful giveaway for joining my insider group.
